The 1490XP is becoming increasing popular due to its compact size, and rugged features which is making it the most popular 15" capacity drum style chipper available on the market today. This unit features a 37" diameter x 18 3/4" wide drum, dual horizontal feed wheels, and engine options ranging from 99 to 142 horsepower. This unit is ideal for municipalities and tree services looking for a compact, economically priced 15" capacity hand-fed chipper.

Like all Bandit hand-fed chippers, the 1490XP comes equipped with a large 37" diameter drum. The Bandit drum is nearly 15" larger in diameter than most competitive 15" drum-style chippers. The larger drum allows for material to be chipped on the bottom half, with the grain of the wood. This reduces fuel consumption, vibration, and requries less horsepower to chip larger diameter material. A larger diameter drum also turns slower than a smaller diameter drum, which increases torque and provides a smoother, more efficent chipping action. The picture below, shows how the Bandit drum chips a log that is 14" in diameter on the bottom half, with the grain, compared to a competitive units drum, which chips material on the top half, across the grain.

A powerful feed system on the 1490XP reduces trimming and simplifies feeding. Two powerful 10 5/8" diameter x 19" wide horizontal feed wheels, with two 32.7 CID hydraulic motors effectively pulls whole trees into the chipper. A wide profile 29" high x 54" wide infeed hopper provides plenty of room for limbs and forked materials to enter the feed system.

As with all Bandit drum-style chippers the patented powerslot comes standard. The powerslot provides maximum airflow through the drum housing, allowing the 1490XP to throw chips at a tremendous velocity. In doing this, chip trucks are fully compacted, decreasing trips to the dump site. This system also allows for lighter debris to fallout of the chipper that may tend to lie in the belly of the drum housing reducing the chance for plugging.

The 1490XP features a heavy-duty steel frame that provides a smooth towing and stable chipping platform. An 8,000 pound electric brake axle with (2) 215/75R 17.5" tires come standard.

The 1490XP is also available as a self propelled unit controlled by radio remote control. These units are being used in a wide varitey of applications, including: lot/land clearing applications, right-a-way clearing applications, fire prevention clearings, and for chipping trees infested with the pine beetle. A Caterpillar 305CR rubber track undercarriage provides excellent stability for traveling over uneven terrain. The user friendly radio remote control will control all chipper functions, including the hydraulic swivel discharge and flipper feature.
